Lisbon, a city you will love to discover
Lisbon is one of the most beautiful cities of Europe. It is a city where you can find countless points of interest that you will enjoy to discover in its clear and sunny weather. Full of historical references, it is a city turned to its wide Tagus (Tejo) river, where the caravels left to discover new worlds to the world.

The Capital of Portugal
It is the capital of Portugal since 1256 more than one century after the first King Afonso Henriques conquered the city to the moors, with the help of the Christian Crusaders. Some of the main historical moments of Portugal took place there.

1755 Earthquake
One of the most tragic events was the earthquake in 1755 that destroyed most of the city. It was one of the strongest ever and was particularly destructive because after the earthquake there was a big tsunami coming from the ocean through the river that fled several hundreds of meters of the city, killing thousands of people.

Right after that, the King’s Minister Marquês de Pombal order the reconstruction of the central part of the city, named Baixa Pombalina and one of its attractions.
Places you must visit
Here you have many places to visit. Some of the most known are the São Jorge Castle, where you have a magnificent view over the central city, the known Torre de Belém, a symbol of Portuguese expansion and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos, a tribute to the Portuguese navigators, the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, an impressive monastery with Manuelino style and the Sé, the old cathedral of the city. 
You must also visit the old neighborhoods like Alfama in an old Moorish style with narrow streets, Bairro Alto, Estrela and Lapa which are typical picturesque neighborhoods, the Baixa (downtown) the center of the city where you have the squares, Praça dos Restauradores, Rossio and Praça da Figueira. Then, coming from Rossio in the direction to the river you have the pedestrian street Rua Augusta until you reach Terreiro do Paço also known as Praça do Comércio.

On the oriental part of the city, you have the modern Parque das Nações, a new city inside the city, created in an industrial area for the International Exhibition of 1998 (EXPO 1998). This is a beautiful place to visit and to walk. You must visit its main attraction, the splendid Oceanário, the second largest oceanarium of the World.

Around Lisbon you have several places that you must visit. You can have a lovely trip by car, from Lisbon to Cascais, a lovely fishermen village, just opposite the river and the sea. You have also the beautiful town of Sintra with its castle, the Sintra National Palace and Pena Palace, which is a unique place to visit.

How to get there
The International Airport of Lisbon is the best way to get there. There are many airline companies flying to the capital. You can check these airlines and the scheduled flights of Portela Airport. From there, you can get a taxi or bus to the city.

You have several options if you are coming from Spain. Depending from which part of the country you are, you have several motorways to get to Lisbon. The main ones are, from Galiza in the North the A3 or A28 to get to Porto and then A1 to the capital. From Madrid in the East, you have A6 from Elvas, passing Évora to Lisbon. And finally from Sevilla in the Southeast you have the A22, the Algarve Motorway, and then near Albufeira you have to turn right to A2 to get there.If you are having your best holidays in Algarve, then you just have to take the A2 motorway and in two and a half hours you will get there. As you can see, it is very easy to have a visit to the capital.
